Problem description

The day to day operations for a team leader was full of inefficiencies: constant walks in search for information, paper audits that required post-processing, chaotic and inefficient action plan follow ups, and constant operator training in their perimeters with out of date standards.

Thanks to the tools they now can access via their iPads they can perform audits, efficiently follow up action plans, and prepare visual material for operator training easily and with all infomation always up to date.

Changes that have resulted in a more efficient production

Standard creation

Before

Several tools required to collect all the information about the standard: paper, pens, photo camera, mobile phone, computer,… To performa a standard a team leader has to collect all information on the shop floor and bring it to the office for sorting and integration. Each small change requires multiple expensive and wasteful walks between floor and office.

Visual Standard incorporates all the tools I need to save a complete standard. I record the video sequencies and edit them to save only what is required, then I divide the stages and add descriptions and comments, I add key points with annotations for each operation with integrated photos, and create a consolidated standard.

Audit follow up

Before

The team leader performed the audits on the shop floor on paper. Working on paper meant a great expense in resources. The results were collected on piles of segregated information that was hard to use. When graphical information was required, this meant the addition of content from a different device via email. The different components of the audit were kept in different locations, as well as the improvement actions.

Now with MPS

The complete audit is performed via the tablet on the shop floor. When a deviation is detected, it is possible to add comments and on-the-floor photographs. Corrective action plans are planned, created, assigned, and executed in real time. The audit is saved in the device and is synchronized to the server, allowing others to review it from other devices. The audit can also be shared on paper or electronically via a PDF.
